Andy Schofield - Teaching Responsibilities
I am the course coordinator of the Theoretical Physics BSc and MSci undergraduate degree programmes. I teach a number of modules which at the moment include
- Special Relativity 1
This is a half-module for theorists (who are not taking lab. options) in the first year. - Probability and Random Processes 1
This is a half-module for theorists (who are not taking lab. options) in the first year. - Current Topics in Theoretical Physics
This is a third year module for theorists (optional for others) which I coordinate. - Quantum Mechanics 4
This is a Masters level module available to all physicists with the necessary prerequisites. - 4th Year Projects in Theoretical Physics
I typically supervise two or three MSc students in their final year research projects. - MPAGS QM4 - Quantum Criticality
This is an advanced level (year 2) postgraduate course which I teach with Dr Nick d'Ambrumenil (University of Warwick) as part of the Midlands Physics Alliance Graduate School. The course is taken by PhD students in Birmingham, Warwick and Nottingham.
Course which I have taught in the past at Birmingham include
- Quantum Mechanics 3 (2003 - 2008)
A third year course on the foundations of quantum mechanics. - An Introduction to Correlated Quantum Systems (2006 - 2007)
A graduate level course for PhD students. - General Physics (1999 - 2005)
A third year course covering problem solving on all areas of physics. - Quantum Field Theory and Many-Body Physics (1999 - 2003)
A Masters level course.
